Care Groups

a few weeks ago i visited a Care Group in Kompong Cham province. this was a group of 6 women who meet about every 6 weeks to learn simple health messages. after they meet, then they visit 15 neighbor homes that they are assigned to to share these messages. when we met the group, there were about 20 persons visiting - church leaders from this region of the world - and they were a bit shy... here you can see Bunthoeun, the assistant project manager, translating some questions.

of the 6 volunteers, two could not read. they assured us that the pictures were clear enough and after the explanations they remembered what to say when sharing the pictures. they shared with the group that although they receive no financial incentives, they are happy to share the messages to help their neighbors. messages such as how important it is for pregnant women to have checkups, ways you can avoid getting HIV or AIDS. i chatted with our staff and heard how the other groups in the village are doing.

the project has been going three years, the teams are gettting stronger and it is starting to see results, lives changed. the project is also at a crossroads and funds are ending. will there be additional funds from the same donor? will there be other donors? we wait to see what God has in store for these women...
