onto something

once upon a time, long ago, i studied and took the cpa exam, uh several times. one year i got smart and took a one month cpa review cram course. i remember the first friday into the course when my friend Vicky and i joined our fellow students Sunday morning after a restful Sabbath. they could not believe that we were 'stupid enough' to waste a study day, they had done so much. it was true that it took a few days to catch-up, but we did. three sunday mornings later, when we came in again after a good Sabbath days rest to join our fellow-students, they looked up at us bleary eyed, trying to keep their eyelids up by big cups of coffee and said, "you know, you guys just might really be onto something with this day of rest thing...."

it is so nice to be Sabbath again. friday night at sunset all the work, worry and stress melt away. even though i am preparing something to share in church tomorrow, studying God's Word is joyful and relaxing... candles lit, air conditioner on. inviting kids into the day adds joy and celebration of simple faith. this group of young people:
have been my students in Sabbath School class over the years. serving others, loving others, celebrating God's love as we have had fun talks, activities and singing time. their parents are in Cambodia to share about God's love and so are they.

as they grow they will question, why do i do this, why do i do that, why don't i do this, why don't i do that. i don't want to tell them a list of dos and don'ts. i know you have to start somewhere, set boundaries, but what i want to help them do is to think. to consider, what happens when you work, work, work and don't stop? what happens when you work, have a rest and then work again? while they are tuned to teacher ann, i want to share those stories in the Bible, of gathering manna in the wilderness, of Jesus healing crippled and blind. those stories of modern day miracles. stories of simple faith and trust. when they come to know God, when they live what is in their hearts, then others will look at them and say, "maybe you really are onto something...."

  1. Ann, is that you writing? It certainly sounds good to me and is what each of us should be doing each week. Glad you got over the sickness you had. May God bless and keep you.
